He ascended to the throne of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on August 11, 1952, and assumed his constitutional powers on May 2, 1953, in Precise, strict Arab and international circumstances.
His Majesty achieved the highest levels of development, especially in the political, economic, and social fields. He built Jordan as a nation of moderation and centrism and ensured an optimal life for his people. Under his leadership, Jordan continued to play its Arab, regional, and international roles effectively and with a vision for the future.
His majesty focused on improving the living standards of citizens, in line with his motto, 'The Human Being is the Most Precious Asset.' This principle was a cornerstone in directing developmental plans and ensuring the distribution of development gains across all regions and social classes.
His Majesty paid special attention to the Jordanian Armed Forces/Arab Army. In the Battle of Karameh on March 21, 1968, they achieved a significant victory that restored confidence to the Arab world after the June War between the Arabs and Israel in 1967.
Regionally and in the Arab world, Jordan was among the founders of the Arab League. It remained committed to and respectful of its decisions. King Hussein played a pivotal role in Arab unity, joint action, and supporting Arab causes, especially the central issue of Palestine.
His Majesty played a pivotal role in nurturing political life and advancing democracy in Jordan. Confronted with a constitutional challenge stemming from the occupation of the West Bank, the creation of the Jordanian National Charter and the establishment of consultative councils were crucial measures taken to address the constitutional gap.
When the Palestinian brethren decided to take responsibility themselves, the Jordanian decision at the Rabat Conference in 1974 recognized the Palestine Liberation Organization as the sole and legitimate.
representative of the Palestinian people. This was followed by the decision to disengagement legal and administrative ties in 1988, allowing Jordan to resume its democratic and constitutional path in 1989 based on political pluralism, reaffirming the consultative approach, and expanding political participation to include women as candidates and voters.
King Hussein authored two books: 'Our War with Israel' and 'My Profession as a King.'
His Majesty King Hussein, may God bless his soul, passed away at the age of sixty-three from cancer on February 7, 1999.
