His Majesty the late King Talal bin Abdullah Al-Mu'azzam
King Talal was born on January 8, 1909, in Mecca. He received his early education in Amman and was appointed as an aide to his father - the Prince of the country - with the honorary rank of lieutenant. He joined the Sandhurst Military Academy in Britain and graduated with the rank of lieutenant. He then served his grandfather Sharif Hussein bin Ali in Cyprus until his return to Amman. He was proclaimed as the constitutional king of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on September 6, 1951.
His Majesty King Talal bin Abdullah, may God bless his soul, continued the path of building and ruling with a visionary outlook, based on the foundations laid by the founding king, built on the principles of moderation, justice, equality, freedom, and human rights.
King Talal's reign, which lasted less than a year, saw the completion of the Jordanian Constitution of 1952, which embodied the horizons of political development based on the necessity of public participation in decision-making. It established the pillars of national and Arab unity.
His reign witnessed the enactment of free education, the issuance of important legislations in various fields, the strengthening of Jordanian relations with Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Egypt, and the signing of the "Arab Collective Security Agreement."
His Majesty's continued rule was hindered by illness, leading to the constitutional decision to form a Regency Council on August 11, 1952, until his son Hussein reached the legal age. This was the same day Hussein was sworn in as King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
His Majesty King Talal, may God have mercy on him, passed away on July 7, 1972.
